How do they tell you to use it? I have one but no directions with it. Curious on what they say.

The container is filled with af.Screw the adapter into the container cap.Turn the red af release valve to the closed position.Hook up a garden hose to the adapter.the other end goes to earmuffs which will be on the drive.Let the water run thru the adapter to the muffs.Run the motor with the water running thru the muffs to the drive. When the motor is warmed up so the tstat is opened you will turn the red valve to allow the af to run to the drive and at that time you shut the water. Now the af is being drawn thru the drive and filling the motor. When there is about a gallon and a half left ,it is time to fog the motor.Continue to fog w/o stalling the motor until there is 1/2 gallon left and then blast 2 cans of fogging oil in the carb at the same time until the motor stalls.MAKE SURE THE MOTOR STALLS BEFORE YOU RUN OUT OF AF.Some remove the tstat incase it does not open.I use warm af mixed with warm water to make sure the stat opens. As stated before, get the manual to be sure to read thru the steps.Charlie

Re: camco winterizing kit

I tried one like it last year and almost lost my engine. After warming the engine and running five gallons thru I almost put the boat away for the winter. But a post here made me suspisous so I reopened the block and manifold drains and clear pure water came out all four!
FYI... you can't be sure that the thermostat opened or how much AF went out the exhaust.

I used a similar system in mine. It worked for 15 years. Then one year it didn't. Its really easier to just to drain the block and manifolds.

The key to being certain that the tstat is open is to first be sure to run the motor for a while, not just until the temp rises. Then what I do is to keep the af in a warm place prior to using it.Then I mix it with warm to hot tap water. The warm mixture makes sure the stat remains open while winterizing. You can also remove the tstat.I have done this at least 20-30 times w/o problems.Charlie

I had a similar experience, checked the engine drains and found not much AF in there, so I drained and backfilled and have been doing it that way for years. I also think it's good to remove the drains every year so they don't get rusted in place, I put some OMC triple guard grease on the threads and they come out easy every year. I use -100 just in case there is some water than didn't drain, it gives freeze protection down to about -50, used full strength.

Yeah, I am going to remove thermostat every year so I don't have to worry about heating it up and hoping that it was hot enough to open the thermostat.

Dangerous system.....Have heard many horror stories on it!
If you insist on using AF,
Run untill operating temp, Drain the block, manifolds, PS cooler etc and then use your Camco system. No need to hook up water to it.....just use the AF portion through the muffs after you drain everything amd fogg as indicated when there is about 1-2 gallons left

That what I do but the time it takes to drain. when you run it on antifreeze it might not be hot enough to open the thermostat so I will remove it then antifreee will flow in the entire system...
