I have a Kodak V220 camera phone. It takes pictures ok when I don't have my digital camera with me. The only problem is that I have a phone full of pictures that I can't download to my computer. I've tried the latest Motorola tools thingy (cost me 30 bucks dammit) that's supposed to work..... nope. I tried another software that I got from somewhere...huh uh...nothing. The question is, is this a problem with the software or is it just this particular model of cam-phone that's at fault?

Some phones will not download the pictures. They only let you e-mail them. So what does your service charge for e-mails?

I have no clue about the email. But this software is supposed to be compatible with this phone. I might go to ebay and buy a better unlocked phone.

I e-mail my phone photos. Check with your phone provider.

with tmobile, you can send (i don't think they call it an email) the photo to an account they keep on their website.

I'm with Verizon. It is my understanding that I can only email my pictures. Charges of course apply.

I don't know about the Kodak V220 but if it is the same as Motorola's V220 the software should work fine... Infact I love the built-in usb, the port makes downloading the pics quick and easy. Did you get a usb cable with the software or from a different location?

Duhhh..ColdFire.. I meant to say Motorola V220. Yes I got the USB cable from a different place than I got the software. The cable works though but not for pics. When I click it says 'initializing' (I think) and never does anything else. I went right to Motorola for the software actually.

Re: Camera phone rant

Ok got to ask are you running win2k or xp? then the next question is it the motorola mobile phone tools? if so when you start it and you choose the default profile with your phone not connected does it throw up a prompt saying unable to communicate... then connect your phone wait a minute or so and press redetect. hopefully it will find your phone and display an image of it. once the phone is initialized it should display your batter and signal strength.

Re: Camera phone rant

the lawsuit against verizon and motorola over the disabling of cell phone's bluetooth function for transfering objects (pix) was recently settled out of court. the prob is only with verizon customers. the same motorola-made cell phones sold thru other venues have fully functional bluetooth. depending on the phone you have, there are detailed instructions and software you can download for free if you want to hack your phone (don't worry, it's legal to do) and change the displays and functions. people successfully hacked cells for verizon's plans and enabled the bluetooth to download pix.<br /><br />depending on your phone, the alternative is to email the pix to yourself ($0.25/ea) or write them to an optinal flash card if your phone has that ability. the flash card can them be read by a card reader on your pc.<br /><br />from what i read, the motorola phone tools s/w will not transfer pix from a verizon plan phone to your pc.

18R, I don't think the V220 has blue tooth but I suppose verizon could've disabled the usb? <br /><br />there are a couple of programs that are not very user friendly that you can use to hack your phone and enable features, but i would not recommend them to the general public you can mess your phone up if you are not carefull :)

Does your phone have a Data Setting that sets the type of PC Connection? On my LG AX5000, I can set my "PC Connection" to either USB, or RS-232C.<br /><br />Good luck,<br />CG

You are correct, the hacking is not without some potential risk, but it doesn’t need to be that way. Read the forums, everyone that experiences problems with hacking their phone didn’t follow the instructions. Read the instructions, they are very clear, very straight forward. If you are not comfy with the instructions, don't attempt the hacking.<br /><br />Verizon wants all of its customers to dial something like *32 monthly. I don’t remember the actual digits, I don’t dial it anymore. What it does is updates firmware. The last update I did reset my phone, re-disabling the hacked access to the gps function.<br /><br />I read something that said not known by all Verizon customers is internet access via your cell phone is enabled for low-speed connections, and it's free. You need to pay Verizon only for the high speed connections. My new laptop has Bluetooth embedded so I decided to marry it to my cell phone to see if it was a happy union. Sure is. Entered the backup dialup number my dsl provider gave me in case dls craps out, and there it is … web surfing on my laptop via the cell phone is there for free.

Re: Camera phone rant

I start the Mobile Phone Tools, choose default profile, it then says to plug in my phone. I do then choose USB connection. It says it can't show my phone model (V220), then it says "initializing" and I guess that it never initializes... just keeps on showing "initializing". Strange happenings with this thing.

Not familiar with the Motorola phone, but I deal with Verizon's Kyocera, LG, Samsung, and now other carriers' Audiovox phones day in, day out.<br /><br />SuperGlue's mention of port setting on the phone is worth investigating. Somewhere in the settings menus, you may find a place to select a port speed or type. I'd suggest checking that out.<br /><br />Also, when you connect the phone, does it show up as a USB device in tour Device manager? If not, I don't think it's going to do a thing.

Well... guess what?? Xcuseme hit the nail on the head. I plugged the damned thing into the rear usb port and it loaded right up perfectly ... worked great. Now... tell me why it worked! Aren't the front ports connected to the rear ports? Anyway, thanks xcuseme for mentioning that. I never would have thought of switching from front to rear.

Re: Camera phone rant

HA! Well...I'll try to make this short (I know, I know, it will be a first!) The following is where I was heading, when I asked you about where you plugged in the cable...<br /><br />Some computers FRONT USB connectors are connected to the motherboard via cable....these can be USB 1.1.....<br /><br />The rear USB ports are usually USB 2.0 , but not always. No, they can be different, and they are not connected.<br /><br />Seems your phone doesn't like to talk to a USB 1.1 spec port...<br />Close inspection of the motherboard manual will point out the fact that some USB ports are 1.1 and which one's are 2.0.<br /><br />That wasn't so hard, was it? Seems like the simple things can run you in circles. I've been there, done that.<br /><br />I'm glad to hear there's joy in Summerville.<br /><br />Merry Christmas... be well
