I am looking to buy a 1988 campion center counsel boat with a Merc 115 two stroke. It has a merc 9.9 four stroke kicker. He is asking $4400. Is this a good price? What questions should I ask. Should I trial it on open water before I buy it? It includes a trailer. Please help me out with this purchase. Thank you. Any issues with the 115 Merc 2 stroke?

What year are the outboards? It's seem like a fair price if it's in good condition. Make sure the transom in not wet or rotten. Walk on the floor and feel for soft spots. If you find some it may mean you'll need to redo the floor and possibly the stringers. Stay away if it needs transom work.

If in good condition then you'll have a pretty fun fishing boat. They are great.

the worst mistakes I've made in buying preowned boats have all come from not taking the boat out for a trial run and for not having a competent mechanic check the motors .... I'd recommend you consider both
