I just got a 1952 JOHNSON 10 HP QD-12 OUTBOARD MOTOR. The guy that sold it to me told me that it need it a Pressurized Gas Tank. I been looking for one everywhere and the only place I saw them is on ebay but there prices are too high. I been doing some research and I found that you can also turn it to a single hose tank but it is expensive and I want to keep the motor with original parts. I called the guy that sold me the outboard and he told me that I can use it with a electric fuel pump of 3.5 psi. I saw them online for around 25 bucks but I dont know if that is truth. I was wondering if anyone know if is possible to do this just until i find a Pressurized Gas Tank. Would this affect the outboard?

If you are asking if it is physically possible, the answer is yes. You didn't ask if it is a great idea, but the answer is probably no.

Thank for the answer. Do you think this could affect the outboard? What are the pros?

Get the proper tank or convert it to a diaphram driven fuel pump. Don't go the electric fuel pump route - potentially dangerous... If you poke around your local marinas or follow Craigslist, you'll find a tank (or three). If going to the marinas, DO NOT bother asking the guy in the pressed shirt at the front desk. DO ask the guy out back with grease under his nails and the name tag on his covealls. The guy at the front desk only wants to sell you new stuff. The guy in coveralls is the one who actually knows where the stuff is. Helps if you show up around coffee time with a box of fresh donuts, too!

Keep clear of the electric fuel pump.
My 2 cents

yes you could use a low pressure electric fuel pump.
Here is why you should not go that route:
If the pump over presures the float valve,in the carb, gas is flowing out.... everywhere.
Leaking gas, will first stall out your motor, second, make a nice enviromental mess in the water, third, might make nice fire, or go bang.
Ok now the price, pressure tank, hose and female fitting, 100-150 bucks.
Electric fuel pump, 25.00, battery for pump, 50-100 bucks. Wire and switch 3-10 bucks. Fuel line connectors, brass bayonet type, 2-5 bucks, may need three. Ok and maybe a few other odds n sods...
Proper way to go, to keep it orginal...say 200 bucks.
Not the right way....lets say 150 bucks,
So for 50 bucks, you want to be unsafe, and have to worry about charging and hauling around a battery?

I bought a "restored" pressurized tank on e-Bay for $200. When I got it I fouind that the hoses were ready for the trash, the hose clamps were missing, the o-rings on the coupler leaked (typical) and the quality of the repaint amounted to a spray bomb after wire brushing. It actually looked pretty good in the ad. That one will become my next project.

I also found one locally for $35. It had a few scuffs in the original paint & decals but it works 100% and didn't leak anywhere. I bought it from a guy that collects older motors and had accumulated too many tanks.

So, buyer beware! Ask questions about leaks and functioning of the tank. Parts are available to rebuild them. A missing coupler where it connects to the motor can still be replaced through BRP, but be aware that that part alone is about $119! If there is a local antique outboard chapter in your area you may get a great deal on a functioning tank through a member.

The old 10 used a pressurized tank 1949 through 1959, then switched to a fuel pump in 1960 through the end of 10 production in 1963. OMC also offered a kit to retrofit 1958/58 models to a fuel pump. I'm not sure if one would work on your 1952 vintage motor. Some members here would know for certain.

I posted a want ad on Craigslist and found one for $10.00. My lucky day and it worked perfect. If you have to spend $100.00 for one, don't. Wait around and have patience. You'll do better than that. sammo_ott may be a person to ask too. He has stated in the past that he has some and he might cut you a deal on one. Myself, I would never spend more than $75.00 on one and for that price, it better be ready to use. and no rust or leaks.

I have bought all of them in my area. I get them for free to $150. I sell them for much more painted and rebuilt. Depending on your area, there may not be any cheap ones left.
