I have a eagle fish finder and an eagle gps/sonar. They both use the same type transducer. Can both be mounted on the transom and would they interfere with each other?

Any two sonar devices can interfere with eachother. You won't know til you try. Most of the time you're stuck using one or the other unless the tansducers can be mounted far enough apart. Say one on the transom and one on a trolling motor at the bow. But even two boats close enough to each other can interfere with eachother.

I have a pair of Eagle Cuda 168 sounders. One in the boat at the transom and the other on the trolling motor. Both run simultaneously when fishing with the TM submerged.

I usually fish in 20' or less of water. I may get some cross talk but not such that I notice it.

In deeper water, the cones could overlap (more or less depending on aperture width....7 degree, 20 degree) and one might get some "fish" that weren't really there I'd suppose. I really doubt that the depth part of the signal would be affected.

I'm not familiar with the TX/RX sections of these things nor their signal capture process so I can't give you any technical response as to yes or no. About all I know is that they operate at 200kHz and they work on sound waves, not electromagnetic waves like your radio or TV.

Re: can 2 same type transducer be mounted on the same boat?

There was a Lowrance and a Zercom transducer mounted to the transom of my boat when I bought it. When both were on they affected each other to the point that they were useless. I have also experienced the same thing when ice fishing. I have a Lowrance sonar and my friend has a Vexilar flasher. His flasher will clutter up the screen of mine to the point it can't find the depth - his flasher isn't affected much.

I now have a transducer on the bow and transom of my boat. As others have said, In shallow water there is minimal interference. In deeper water they do get messed up.

Re: can 2 same type transducer be mounted on the same boat?

I had bad luck running two of the same frequency setups on my 17' bass boat at either end of the boat. They only worked if I was in 10' or less. Deeper than that and they interfered so badly nothing on them worked. The transducers had about a 20 degree cone angle IIRC and they should have worked much deeper so reflections off the substrate must have been the problem. Here's a nice description of the situation: http://www.lowrance.com/support/Tips_Tutorials/Sonar/sonar_tutorial_06.asp

I have a friend that runs one display and two transducers. They make a switch that allows you to select either one. So you can use the aft one during cruise/motor trolling or the TM mounted xducer.

The Vexilar has selectable frequencies so that you can use two of the same units in very close proximity. The same friend and I have Vexilars and were able to run them in the same shanty with ice holes two feet apart. I've run mine with other people using different sonar units and simply ran through the selections until I found one that did not interfere.

My buddy 19 foot bass boat has 2 200Khx 20 degree transducers. The one on the bow trolling motor is mounted where it points about 10 degrees foward and the one on the transom is mount and point stright down.

You can run both units in water less than 35 feet with no problem. In water over 35 feet must turn one off or it does not work at all.
