Can a 300lbs man wake board?

My buddy just bought a 92 Dyna-Trak with Yamaha 150 ProV. Do you think the bass boat pylon (31") tall and just barely gets over the outboard is tall enough to get my big frame up on the water? Would moving up to a 41" pylon that screws to the floor be any better?

Or am I too big for anything but tubing off of the transom hooks?

If they can tube you they can wakeboard you. Just get the biggest size board and keep squatting on the board until boat is up to speed. If you stand up to fast the board goes down and then you pull a header. When you are learning keep the boat speed at about 15 and stay inside the wake to learn your edging and sliding of the board. Afterward you might have to go 20 or so to work the board across the wake well. The pylon height won't matter near as much as the technique starting.

Good info. Was worried about pulling pylon out of boat and eating it.

Once you get the hang of it your size won't matter much.

I can pull four skiers out at once so I beloved you are good.

I think you will need more speed than 15 to stay up on the water.

Try to keep it around 17-19 when starting out. Also if you have an Ipad check out the WAKE MD app by shaun murray. There is a great video on how to get up. Most people try to keep the board infront of them while starting out but it makes it much easier if you let the board collapse under you like you are trying to hold something behind your knee. It turns the board into a wing under the water and pops you up.

Your going to need to be pretty strong to get yourself up with 150 motor at 300lbs. If you were to try it with a inboard v-drive or direct drive I would say you would have no problems. IMO

Unless the ProV is running some sort of extreme speed prop, the boat set up should not be an issue.
I'd vote for a lower attachment point. If pylon doesn't work just hook to one of the transom eyes. Lower to the water will keep the bow of the boat down. The 150 should be plenty to tear the rope out of your hands before bogging down the boat. have fun.

I agree with Ski Brain about the hooking up to the transom eyes if you are worried at all about the pylon!

As someone above said, once the pull starts let the board rollunder you a bitand it will pop you to the surface as the boat speed goes up. Don't stand too early though!

Cheers
