I have a 1969 glasspar citation. It has a merc tower of power long shaft on it. I was given a 15hp force I want to use for kicker. My question is will it work. The cavitation area is below water line due to V of bottom of boat. I would like to buy a connector rod to hook both motors toghther since they will be close on transom.
Thanks

Will you mount it on a bracket or simply on the transom?

As long as the engine gets sufficient water for cooling (all of the time) it should work for you.

I saw all of the time because it needs to be deep enough so that the water intakes are never out of the water (need to consider waves and boat movement).

Mounting it on a bracket that will allow you to raise and lower it is probably the best and safest method.

It didn't work very well for me.
Although the lower unit was in the water, the front of the prop was blocked by the hull.
Could not get any thrust.
Prop would ventilate at speeds above 1.7 mph.

Mounting a kicker bracket helped somewhat, but created new problem of the motor being too far back to easily operate.

I now have a long shaft kicker. Prop is completely below the hull. Made a world of a difference.

Thanks. My motor even if mounted on transom would have prop below bottom of boat. From the angle I see, the cavitation plate would be about even with bottom becasue where motor would mount and axis the bottom of boat is more shallow becasue of the V"

if you have it, why not just give it a try?

edit - (sent too soon). Meant to say, give it a try and let us know what you find out. I'm trying to decide what will work on my transom without a bracket and I'd be interested in how it works.
