This read MCM 165 and i'm trying to figure out what this is, it's a four banger with a serial # of B487942. and where is the alternator on this rig? any help would be apprciated thanks Captains.
IF I remember correctly, the 165 was a Mercruiser 4cyl, GM motor with closed cooling. As for the alternator, I do not know.
But I can tell you it won't be going anywhere without a coil wire.
It's a 470 engine. The alternator is under the vibration dampner. Like an outboard, only it never worked very well. Most 470's you see today have been converted to an alternator. If you are looking at this boat to buy, I would suggest you keep looking and avoid the 470 stye engines in Mercruisers.
It doesn't have one, it has a magneto like an outboard....
If you are in the market for a boat, I would keep looking...
They haven't made the 470 in 20 years for good reason...
