Can any of the Guru's help me identify a model year?

Hi Everybody!

Bought this new to me Evinrude, and was told it was a 87 or 88 model 175 HP. The model and serial tag on the port side of the bracket is missing, so that doesn't help.

Any tell tale signs to look for?

You might look around on the block and see if you can find a silver core plug, about the size of a quarter, it might have the model number on it.
