Can anyone help me?

Hi everyone, my grandpa just gave me a 1976 Steury cabin cruiser. It was his pride and joy for many years until he got his dream boat. It is a very solid boat and everything mechanical works great. It needs to be cleaned up and the woodwork needs to be redone. I would like to restore it to look as close to the original as possible but I cannot find pictures anywhere. Does anyone know where I can find some pics of a boat like mine? Also, does anyone have any advice on materials or restoring the exterior finish.

Welcome to iboats.

I will bump you up and hopefully one of the moderators will put this in the restoration forum.

Stuerys are great boats and were made just a few miles from my house.

Have you tried googleing them yet, possibly Wikapidia, I would start there and see what you come across.

We like pictures here at iboats so get some up if you can.

I don't know about your boat in particular, but I've helped restore a few older boats. To clean all of the wood surfaces we used deck stripper to get rid of all of the black marks, gray color, and mold. Then we would lightly sand the surface with 220 grit sand paper just to knock down the 'hairs' after it had completely dried, and last we liberally applies Teak oil and let that soak in really well. All that was needed after that was a yearly rub down of a teak oil soaked rag to help replenish the woods original color and to help brighten it up.

Hope that helps.

i have googled with no results but i will keep trying. I also tried to upload a photo of my boat but the file was too large. I am trying to figure out how to change that. Thank you for answering

Welcome aboard!!! I think I'll leave it here as you are looking for pictures and general info first. When you do get around to planning your restoration then start a new thread in the Restoration forum. Good luck!!
