Hi, I have recently taken ownership of a 14' boat and was wondering if anyone can identify it for me, I am new to boating and have no idea!

If anyone could tell me the max hp motor for this sort of boat, it would be appreciated.

I have checked all the recomended places for a serial or model number and can not find one anywhere.

Many thanks in advance,
Mark.

Re: Can anyone ID my boat?

That looks a bit like my 1974 16' Avenger. My Avenger has a 6.5' beam and is rated for 85HP. If that boat has a wide beam for it's length, it indicates it can take more power than a standard runabout-type boat of the same length. that is why a 16' bass boat will be rated fro a 200HP motor, and a 16' runabout will be rated for an 70HP motor. I never saw an Avenger of 14' however.

Can't tell you about the hull but looking at it: If you are a die-hard go-fast type, and if you can avoid the water cops, then if you reinforce the transom and splashwell you should be able to stuff a 125 two cycle on the back. Don't drive it like you stole it, don't act crazy and attract attention, and you should be OK.

However, since it is a deep vee, the weight of the engine will probably put part of the splashwell under the waterline while sitting still.

I have a 14 foot flat bottom and with a 125-140, the drain hole for the splashwell is only just above the water. My flat bottom with a 125 does 60 GPS. 55 with a 90HP, and 45 with a 60HP.

With my 14 footer, I take it out when there is not much traffic, I try to stay away from other boaters and do some high speed runs. I run it for a couple of hours, burn about 50 liters fuel then go home. I will try to add some photos later.
