I just got my 97 ocean pro 175 E175EXECD and was just curious if there is a way to double check the overheat alarm on it to find out if it works or not. Trying to make sure its tip top shape before I really start using it.
Run it in a trash an of water until the water gets hot? I'm not sure I like this idea though. Best might be to remove the sensor and put the sensor tip into hot water while connected and with power on.
Find the tan wire that goes to one of the temp senders on the cylinder head and disconnect it. Put some muffs on it or take it to the lake. Start the motor up and ground out the tan wire coming from the harness. The hot light in in the tach should go on right away and the horn should sound after 10 seconds.
I think you can just remove the hood off motor, turn ignition switch on don't start , unplug a tan wire at temp sender on you of one of the heads and ground it to the block. With the switch on you should hear the horn. Good luck.

Remove the two sensors. Connect an ohmmeter to the tan wire and casing on one of the sensors. Dunk into a pan of water hotter than 150*F and see if sensor tan wire shorts to the casing. Repeat with other sensor.
