I have a 1998 1700SR Maxum boat and the steering is extremely hard to turn because it's manual and I am wonder if there is a power steering kits that I can replace?

Other question is how much would it cost to change out the throttle, forward & reverse gear cable?

Any help would greatly appreciated.

Knowing what your power plant / drive setup would help, but generally:

If it is a Mercruiser, then yes, but will be very expensive. Others, I don't know about. You can add a "Hydraulic Steering Helm".

Not as easy to steer as power steering, but a ton better than "manual steering by Armstrong" and lots cheeper than power steering.

On your other question, there are too many variables to suggest a cost of doing it in a forum. Best bet is to start cruisng the online vendors for prices for what you need for your specific setup.

Thank you for the helpful informations. I'll do some research and see which available options. Right now the steering is just really hard, my arm are exhausted after couples of turn at slow speed.

I'll take it to the marine shop today for an estimate and see how it's go.

Seldom is going to power steering needed to cure the problem. All you probably need to do is remove the steering cable from the aluminum tube it goes through on the transom shield. They get corroded inside, and it just binds up the steering, power steering or not.
Take it apart, clean it out, grease it up and steer it easily.
