can I crank motor with cylinder head off to see if cylinder is getting fuel?

I've been having some issues with my V4 not having as much power as usual, especially under WOT and after many checks and changing of somethings it's been narrowed down to powerpack or stator not supplying spark to one cylinder once hot or that cylinder not getting fuel.
I have spark when engine is on hose and idling/being revved up, and have fuel to carb when cranking engine.

Had to take head off same side where problem is happening to fix some messed up sparkplug threads and want to know while I have head off is there anyway without doing damage to see if that cylinder is getting fuel from the carb -

Can I crank the engine without hurting anything and will that even show me fuel delivery without the engine being started?

If there is away it would be great to know it, as I could eliminate fuel from the possible issue and focus on electrical.

Cranking the engine without the head won't damage anything. I would remove the sparkplugs on the other head to relieve the compression on thise two cylinders. You might be able to see the deflector on the piston getting a slight wetting, most of the fuel will be vapour.

Thanks jimmbo - I will try this!

Can I ask you one more question please - if the engine was put back together and running with one plug out - would I get fuel spurts out of that cylinder if it's getting fuel or just puffs of air that would contain fuel vapor only (not liquid fuel)?
In other words not be able to really tell if there was fuel arriving at cylinder or not?

Sometimes, like when the engine is flooded, there pulses of mist when you crank the engine. With 2 strokes there will be some gas/oil that never vapourizes

sounds like a daft idea to me.

your gonna crank over the engine at start up revs to see fuel that should be almost invisible !!!!!!!!

why not just put it back together then check the plug to see if its dry or wet by NOT putting the
kill switch on and using the choke so it just cannot start ????
this will show if plugs aregetting wet or not.

its pretty easy to test if a plug is getting wet that way,i know its not the correct procedure, but it works.
and even if you do see it, how are you going to know if its too much or not enough ?

As said, you probably will not see much fuel. With the head off there will not be enough vacuum on the intake stroke to draw the small amount of fuel into the cylinder.

Thanks Everyone! Putting head back on tomorrow evening and will see if plugs get wet by cranking engine with choke on and kill switch cable not.
