dforest, Seems you have not received any replies. And that is because when folks have no ideas about what you are wanting to actually do, they just read and move on. I am assuming that you have a cable setup to interpret the software onboard your engine. But can't access the data and wanting to know if it needs to be running. And that is a good question. Since I have never ever worked with such an engine or data link setup, I am assuming that unless there is power to the software you will never get a connection to read that info. It could be that the engine needs some type electrical power to interrogate the software. But does that mean the engine just has to be powered on or actually running is anybody's guess. Try hooking up electrical power and see if you can get a connection. Better yet, contact the dealer and ask them. JMHO!
