Can I ditch the OEM doghouse?

i have a 1978 19’ Galaxy. Has a mercruiser 165 I think it’s a straight 6. My issue is the fiberglass doghouse cannot be lifted with 2-3 men. Big men! It’s 250-300 lbs! Is it supposed to be? When I have it in the boat the tongue wants to lift up. Can I make one out of wood that’s lighter or is it a safety issue and supposed to be massive heavy? I can’t even lift it alone if I had mechanical failure.

No idea why it's so heavy, but gives me pause - "When I have it in the boat the tongue wants to lift up."

The tongue weight needs to be adjusted. I bet she's a swayer going down the road.

The doghouse seems it should not take 3 men to lift it, if i had a mechanical issue theres no way i could fix it,. and im 6'1" 275! are dog houses supposed to be almost 300 lbs?
