Can I ground the fuel gauge sender wire?

I have the digital speedo with fuel gauge. It is not very accurate so I have hooked up an anologue gauge instead. With the sender from fuel tank disconnected from the speedo the low fuel light flashes. My question is, can I just ground out the white wire on speedo and have it read full fuel?

Probably ok, but to be safe ground through a resistor, 30-50 ohm would do.

Why don't you like the digital fuel gauge?

Thanks
Well, I don't mind it at the top of the tank, but because it only reads in 1/8's I never know if there is any in fuel the tank when it is low or not. Drops from 1/8 to zero just like that. With the anologue if the needle is still moving I know there is still a few drops left.

could it be a bad sending unit in the tank? does it test out the ohm range correctly?

Sender works fine. Guage works fine too. The digital gauge only has 8 bars meaning it reads only to the nearest 1/8th. What I meant was when the tank is fullish then it doesn't really matter but near empty it goes 1/4, 1/8, zero. So, when it is at the bottom bar, how much fuel do you really have left? Hard to know.

So do you not like the gauges in cars and trucks either, they work the same way.
You usually just add fuel when it gets low or keep track of the mileage and do not usually let them get too low.
