Can i install a different Year fuel pump.

OK i have a 85 115 v4 vro. i know that one of the one way valve on the compression part of the pump is busted. I have disabled the vro and use premix. Can I install a different year pump that is not vro and not the same year pump. I think i want to put a 82 pump on. This is before the original manufactures conversion to vro style. These pumps are more than $100 less. I believe this pump still works on the engine compression. Does anyone know. Have anyone ever tried this.

That looks like the one installed on my '89 Evinrude 110 to replace the original VRO pump. I just had Hernia surgery yesterday, as soon as I get get outside I'll take some Pics of mine & Email them to you. You'll be able to see where it is mounted & where the vacuum line is attached.

Thats the pump i installed inplace of the VRO pump. It works well, but it did not solve all the problems. It no longer stalls. Im gonna now check the timimg. This is a project rebuilt. I could see how the timing is off. Hope it goes well today.

I installed a 3 port Mikuni snowmobile pump on my triple. It will idle all day and there is no fear of a stall powering it up.
It was either the low compression in number 3 or the pump was weak.
