I recently banged up my Black Max prop. 13.75 diameter and 15 pitch. I call iboats on Friday and order a Michigan Wheel prop, 13.75 diameter, 15 pitch. Amazingly, iboats has it to me by Monday, besides the FAST shipping, the customer service rep. was a very, very nice lady to deal with. I go to put the prop on this weekend and put the hub from the Black MAx intot eh Michigan Wheel since Michigan Wheel says it will fit. It appears it does. I place the prop on the shaft and I notice that the blades just do not clear the small metal tab above the prop. I forget the name of that thing that helps the motor track straight. I can't figure out what is wrong with the exception that the prop itself is a bit longer than my previous Black Max. My question is can I run the boat without that metal "rudder" attached to the lower unit? I tear up blades enough that I'm sure I'll do it to this one int he next few weeks and then I can go back to my Black Max without any problems. Any info. would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Yes you can run it without. They make a flat replacement piece for that.

I think that running without the trim tab will cause you fight with the wheel a bit to maintain course.

You should be able to get a special cut-down trim tab from the dlr, for use with Hi-Rake props. You may have received a High-Rake prop, and the blades are swept back farther. Of course, you could always take a hacksaw and file to your existing Zinc for a bit more clearance!

You'll probably notice quite a change in steering torque, and also more bow lift for any give trim position.

HTH.....ed
