I suspect something is making this motor run hot. Poppet valve is suspect. Can I just take it out? Is it going to leak out the weep hole? Runs hot at cruise. Water pressure is 13 at 5500rpms 2 at idle. 94 200 mercury xxl

The poppet valve is there to protect the engine from cold water hitting the hot cyl's.

It is a NO NO to remove it.

Have you done some work with the water pump recently?

Did you silicone the divider behind the waterpump that separates the exhaust from the water pump?

TMD
