Going to buy a Hurricane SS201, weight dry 2360, wet 3315. Have 2002 Buick rendezvous rated at 3500 towing capacity, installing transmission cooler. Since wet weight is with max HP and we are 179lbs with 115hp instead under that , and do not plan on using Buick for trips longer than 30 miles, should it be OK? I really don't foresee being near full weight often, have no need for full tank of gas very much. I haven't figured in weight of trailer which is bugging me badly now. Need opinions ASAP!

No, any weight in the tow vehicle beyond the driver's 150# and a full tank of gas reduces your towing rating commensurately.
So no, it's not safe in an emergency, and it will kill the brakes and suspension on the Buick too.

NO. We amatuer tow drivers should never attempt more than 70% of the rated weight, never mind over weight.

Re: Can I safely trailer this set-up?

I had a Volvo when I bought my boat and it was rated at 3300 lbs towing capacity. My boat and trailer would come in just under that and I was not willing to tow with that vehicle. I have towed with several other vehicles including a Suburban, and I like feeling safe when towing. It's downright scary driving down the road knowing that you may be towing something too heavy for your truck.

What I did was sell the Volvo for $3600 and bought a 98 GMC Envoy for $3500 which is rated at 5500 lbs towing capacity. It tows my boat just great, but I would not consisider towing anything over about 4700 lbs with it even though it is rated at 5500.

Here is a link to a sight I used for finding towing capacities of vehicles:

I have no idea how accurate it is, but at least it's something to give you an idea.

Good advice so far...don't exceed your vehicles towing capacity, even for short trips. Find a public scale and get your boat/trailer rig weighed so you know exactly how much towing vehicle you need.
