As stated it is a QD22 Number should appear on the mounting bracket.Simple to work on.Reliable.
Almost any service manual will serve you well though a factory manual is best.Routine parts are readily available right here at iboats or NAPA auto parts or any well established OMC dealer among others.

measure from where it would sit one the transom, to the plate above the prop and post the measurement.

laingsoutboards.com is also a good place for parts.

If it is a long shaft it will have an obvious 5 inch extension added at the bottom of the mid section.
It will measure approximately 20 inches from the bracket that sits on the top of the transom to the antivent plate just above the prop.

On the number plate will be an "L" after the QD22 for a long shaft
Good motors, have two apart now and either at, or will be at auction on Ebay for parts
. 55 QD16, and a 59 QD20
What ever ya do, replace the coils...crack with age

i think you would be better off, if you need a long shaft, to keep looking. there won't be much difference in resale price. converting to a long shaft could get pricey.

My take on the 61 would be pass. Older OK, or jump to a 70 or better

I would certainly go for a 10hp over (later built) 9.5. And a '61 ought to have good roller bearings, 1000 little improvements over older models, etc.

Condition is everything with any motor over 5 years old though. Can't say what it's worth without testing compression, checking the l/u oil, running it a bit, and having a good look over it.
