Hey guys. I have a 1996 4.3 LX gen + thunderbolt 5 mercruiser. I'm still tracking a vibration problem, and am curious about the flywheel. Is there any way I can tell what flywheel is in this thing? I'm curious if somebody put on a V8 flywheel or ring gear instead of the V6 one causing my vibration. Hence my question. Is there a way to tell what flywheel i have without removing the engine? I plan to remove the engine in the winter, but i'm impatient and want to get the most info I can before I start pulling it apart. Thanks!

The only thing you might be able to do if you have the space is to pull the inspection cover on the bottom of the bell housing and see if you can get a picture of the gm casting number that's on the back of the flywheel. I just got done putting putting the flywheels back on the motors I am building and as I recall the casting number is closer to the outside of the flywheel and may be visible.

Not an expert here but from what I'm finding, all V6 and SBC V8 flywheels are the same since 1986 when they went to the 186 tooth flywheel.
