NOT ANOTHER OIL THREAD !!!

...it's youe engine, run what ya' want, but, the manufactures made recommendations for a reason.

Personally, multiweight oil is un-necessary it you boat only in the warm months.

no conventional oils that start with a number lower than 20 should go in a Mercruiser 260.
20W50
25W40
or straight 30
automotive filter fine.

If it is a pre-1986 flat tappet engine, DO NOT use an oil with the "energy efficient" sunburst on the bottle..no zinc to protect the cam.

Latest Mercruiser engine oil recommendations below. If you don't like what the factory recommends, you can easily find someone on the internet who will tell you that whatever you choose to use is fine!

Sure, an automotive filter will be fine.

The main difference in automotive filters (and "marine" filters) is the thickness of the metal housing, and the quality of the anti-drainback valve, if it has one.

Filters for Chevies come in different sizes, depending on how much clearance you need..the most common is the "1 quart" size. However, if you NEED a 1 quart size filter, you've got serious problems.
