Can just the stripes be painted and cleared only?

Hey guys! I have a 1979 21' Charger with original paint that has an orange metallic striping that has sun faded and worn away. So my question is can only the stripes be wet sanded and painted over leaving the rest of the paint, as it is in very good condition? And if so, what should I use to redo the stripe? Thank you for any feedback or response you have. MIKE

If the orange striping is painted rather than a decal then yes of course you can just repaint that.<br />What paint you use is going to depend on what's available in that colour, I would take a sample to my paint supplier and have them mix a can in the paint of my choice, probably epoxy.<br />To get a good job with metallic you will almost certainly have to spray it.

You can paint the stripes any colour you like, or at least any colour you can get hold of, it might be an idea to test somewhere it doesn't show to make sure the new paint is compatible with the old though, you may need to use a barrier coat otherwise.<br />If you spray with something like automotive acrylic it shouldn't need to be clear coated, unless you need a really high gloss finish, no reason why you can't just clear coat the stripe though.

I have one more question<br />there are two simulated wood grain decals/sticks that are on the rise of the bow.Thay are so UGLY I<br />thought about naming my boat after my mother-in -law!! & they make my boat look about as old as she is too!!! So my question is what do you suggest I do with them?

Take them off? A scraper, hot air gun, and care usually does it.
