I have a Mercury 200 lower unit that had the threads somwhat flattend out by taking out the prop shaft and gear, etc. There may be be a little crossthreading too.

Can a mechanic recut these threads and is it worth it? I intend to sell it. Thanks.

That sounds right. It's where the carrier and prop assembly goes in at. It's probably 3" across.

find a good machine shop that specializes in line boring and mill work. not an automotive shop, but a real machine shop.
