8.5' long?
Like a little hydroplane?
It will go plenty fast with an 18hp.
Don't know if you could pull a skier.

Well, not legally if you don't have room for a spotter and the skier if something should happen.

Post a picture if you can.

It all depends on the skier. How much does he weigh? Is it a beginner.... 2 or 1ski(mono)?

You'd better have a look at that capacity plate. I can't imagine any 8' boat rated for anywhere near 18Hp. :(

From the picture it looks like there is a hole in the hull on the port side. Sinking semms like a more important concern.

Thats where the number is covered through a photo editor, not a hole. I looked at your boat close up in my photo editor, and I've seen those boats a long time ago. Don't know if you have room or power for 2 plus a skier, but 18hp and one person in the boat would be enough fun to FORGET about skiing. If it was mine, I'd stick a 35hp on it, but of course, I'm nuts.
PS. By the way, what did ya do, trip on all that junk, and THEN take the picture? Take a photo from the back looking down and post it

I had a little 8' hydroplane with a 20 Merc on it... one mmmmillion years ago. It was slow to get the skier up (2 skis/175 lbs.) but it would... just.

personally, I wouldn't worry about if the boat can tow a skier. I'd be more worried about how you are going to get it to the water.... Please don't say that you going to tow it on that thing it's sitting on at the momment.

i will get a better pic tomarrow. i am towing the boat on that trailer, but i am in autobody in school. i will be rienforcing it. im am currently adding aircraftgrade stainless steal as fenders. my dad owns a bayliner and i will be boating partners with him. his boat has an inline 4 volvo. and a 270 outdrive, with twin carbs. im pretty sure i can beat him dont u think? his only tops like 35 to 40.

Mouseboat,

Looks like a cool little boat. With a little work, it will probably be a blast. Don't mind lark2004, his wife probably told him he couldn't continue rebuilding his boat in the living room.

Re: can my boat tow a skier??

:D I'm now doing a 4hp in the living room.

But that trailer is dangerous. What is that shiney metal tacked around the bottom? is it stainless? I would suggest that since you are re-enforcing it, start by dismantleing the whole thing, and build a safe trailer. If you take that thing on the road, someone is going to get hurt. Do you really want that?

As for the boat..... It looks like it could be alot of fun.
