Found out the reason my motor doesn't have a dipstick is the drain hole threads are stripped. Can the threads in an oil pan be repaired or do I need to buy new pan?

Auto parts stores have special over sized and/or self tapping bolts just for this situation.
Worst case, they also have a rubber plug for the really muffed up threads.

Are you stating there isn't a dip stick tube to put a dip stick in?

Probably the dipstick is part of the oil pan drain, there is a brass adapter fitting that screws into the pan in which the dipstick tube screws into, the bolt that holds the brass adapter to the pan is a hollow 3/4" bolt about 3" long and the brass block has an o-ring that seals to the pan, is this your set up?

There might have been 2 tubes into that brass 3/4 fitting, one threaded for a pump, and one for the dipstick tube.

My 120 had that setup and the pump tube was cracked at the fitting.

But there should also be a hole with a plug low on the block that can be popped and a dipstick tube inserted. Starboard side and about 12 inches forward from the end of the block. About 6-8 inchs up from the pan lip. If there is, then use a regular drain plug after you tap a new thread onto the pan. Brass one napa would probably have it. Don't forget the rubber washer.

Re: can oil pand drain thread be repaired?

Thanks for the input. I should have clarified. I do have a hole on the block for the tube but previous owner seemed to have stuck one in that didn't work and used zip ties to attach. I have the original setup with the hollow bolt, brass block and tube ready to go but the oil drain hole is threaded. Sorry for the confusion but I would like to use the original tube setup but need to find out if striped threads can be repaired. Thanks

To the best of my knowledge the tube in the block is not threaded.

He may have used the wrong sized tube i don't know cause i can't see it.

The tube that the dipstick sits in is pressed into the block not threaded.

Now to the 3/4 fitting at the drain it threads into another fitting that can be removed. And a regular plug can be purchased. And used in the pan.

I would do away with that fitting with the tube in it at the drain and put a regular plug in the drain , and go to any junk yard and get a tube and dipstick for your motor probably for free. And if your nice they may give you the drain plug also just tell them what size motor you have.

Im afraid you'll have to remove the pan to get it right, it's the threaded metal plate on the inside that needs replaced, you just can't trust any kind of magik thread making formulas, locktite does market a thread repair two part mix but it's a waste.
