Hey guys, any suggestions on polish for pontoons? There is a slight amount of water lines, mostly just little spots and stains from where i dripped carpet glue......I know, I just got excited and didn't take my time:) Thanks for the input!

There are all kinds of polishes that will shine aluminum. None of them will keep the aluminum shiney for very long and I don't know of any clear coating that will keep the aluminum from re-oxdising and that will hold up in water.

As for the glue, that should not be difficult to clean off. Use whatever solvent that the glue is based on.

Like Boom said. I had an old honda 750 motorcycle which i polished the engine case and gear case etc.. to the point where it looked like chrome..don't think i would want to do it to something as large as toons. upkeep would be a nightmare... back to reality.. I guess you could wash them in a mild acid solution and then wax them 2 or 3 times a year..

Re: Can pontoons shine?!!!

I work for a large trucking firm. A driver I know went through allot of effort meticulously polishing the tanks a wheels on his truck to a high shine. Noticing the job I asked him what polish he used to get it so bright. He recommended Mother's Bullet polish. (parts stores sell it) I bought some awhile back to use on some hand rail fittings and it worked rather well.

BTW, the driver I talked to took untold hours getting his tanks like chrome. He said he liked the result but he would rather pay someone else to do it next time. (use a buffer, unless you like tennis elbow)

The polish that I use is called Wenol metal polish. I get it online or at Street Rod Shows. It comes in small tubes or up to gallon cans. I don't know if you remember SemiChrome polish, but it looks and works just like it. I was told that the major polishing companies uses this product.

Yes they can shine, as stated alot of elbow grease, even with a electric buffer. Once you get them shiney, you can try a product called Sharkhide. It is supposed to keep the toons shiney.

Been there, done that, but it was to much work to keep them shiney, so I went with the standard look "used"!!!
