Hummmm.... now I can't think of the name of that stuff. I think west marine ,boaters world sells it just tell them it is for your fire wall comes in a roll, lowers noise and helps block/reduces heat .

I have used the small cans of foam like your talking about they fill small corners well and I have used them in larger holes for duckboats, if you need more you can get the two part foam for boats at uscompsites.com

You are looking for sound barrier,West Marine has it,shop the net.Marine sound barrier blocks gas fumes(marine type).Foam in a can,its not a closed cell foam like the type used in boats, gas will eat it and it sucks up water, but it can be used to plug holes were you pass wires ect,to fill in holes.Other then that, use the right type of foam for floation.

You could try people who work with RV generators. They use a type of foam that is a sandwich of foam, rubber sheet, then foam again.

Since it is used in a generator housing it should have not problem with heat.

If you do go this route let us know what you find - availability, cost, etc.

I replaced the insulation on my engine cover with regular home type Celotex (the foil backed type). Used silicone for an adhesive and aluminum tape in all the corner seams. It came out great. This is the second year with the insulation and it's still holding up like a champ. Can't say the engine compartment is much quieter though, When running @4000. It is quieter when trolling at 800 though.
