Can some take a measurement for me please?

Hi there,

Still working away on my 1975 16 ft SS and have all the hardware off the deck for painting. Holes all filled in and sanded down and zinc chromated. Updated pics as soon as things warm up a bit.

Can someone who has their Super Sports in the water (or can see the waterline on the transom) tell me how many inches of freeboard you have please? I need the measurement from the waterline to the top of the low portion of the transom where a trolling motor would clamp on. I'm guessing around 14-15 inches.

I have an 2006 85hp Merc hanging of the back as my main motor, but I don't think the motors makes that much difference to the measurement unless you really go to one extreme.

Thanks guys,

Beezer

Doesn't your electric motor have an adjustable shaft?

Follow the strake on the side of the boat corners, subtract a couple inches for engine weight.

My 5.5hp Johnson has an 18" shaft and it sat right on the transom, perfect height, so I'd agree that 14" is about right.

I can measure next time I'm at my winter storage facility.

You are gonna love that big Merc on the SS I'm sure. Looking forward to some photos.:)

OK - so if any of you ever need to know - a standard length British Seagull engine is long enough for the freeboard on a 16ft SS. Fits nicely. I won't bore you all with the rebuild details but I know have a nice little back up motor and conversation piece for $21.00, including the gas, oil, a new gas can and two spark plugs. Can't complain eh.

You can use a short shaft motor as a kicker since it will not plane the boat but, just push it along. 14-15 inches is right probably closer to 12 and mine is in a garage right now with about 6' of snow piled in front of the door. ;)
