Took my boat out today got 100 yrds from my spot and my 140 grenade itself inside...argg.
Got home and started looking on CL to see what motors are out there. I ran across this ad on CL but I have not seen a set up on a motor like this before. Can that assembly be taken off and put a normal trimand tilt bracket on it so it can be a normal setup? Can I use the parts from my 140 on this 225 to make it a normal setup??
Thanks

Welcome aboard.

That's an OMC Sea Drive. Google "OMC Sea Drive Conversion" for some hits.

Buy it. If that motor runs good you can use it and then part off the sea drive parts as they are scarce.

Well I didn't see where you told us what model your 140 is? This motor (225) is a XL model. If your (140) is not a XL model then your mount won't work. This (225) is not a SeaDrive, it is an outboard mounted on a SeaDrive bracket. Not a big difference, but some of the advantages are missing. Your V-4 gearcase will not work wheather it is the right length or not. Wrong gear ratio. If your 140 is newer than 1991 then it has a different TNT system & brackets. Can be made to work As an assembly, but requires some modifications. Just some of the pit falls I can think of off the top of my head.
That doesn't make the 225 a bad purchase, but I wonder what he means by needs splines? Beware!

Rusty my motor is between 87 to 91...id tag is missing. I don't know if its xl. Mine is a 25 in.
Yes I was wondering about the spline also. I didn't know if there was some kind of spline sticking out of the sea drive bracket. The main thing I would need to fit is just the mounting trim and tilt bracket.

Ga boater the only conversion info I could find so far has been more about converting the boat over from a sea drive bracket ... not seeing how to change the bracket off the motor and reusing the motor.
Thanks guys

If it needs driveshaft or crankshaft splines you are buying the seadrive bracket-----Parts motor is what I think it is !

That looks to be a 1999 model 150 hp.----Has to be a reason for the now $1000 price.

All things being equal (IF) I would rather have the 150! Much closer to the weight of your 140. Good clean looking motor. Much easier to work on (JMHO). Price is a steal!

Wow that is a good looking motor .Curious about the price 2000 in the description 1000 in the title.
This is my thinking....My boat is a 21 cuddy and it is a pig. The 140 would do 28 wot and I would try to cruise just around 24. I was hoping to find something with some more push. What kind of difference will I get from a 150? And if im going with a 6 cyl would I be better off with a 200 or 225? They would weigh about the same as a 150??

What does your boat rate for horsepower wise? The 150 only weighs like 10/15 lbs more than your 140 where the looper 200/225 is a lot more! Cuddles are hard to power/prop. I understand your desire for more power.

Ok talked to the guy that owns that motor. He repowered his 20 foot deckboat with a new Suzuki 4 stroke wanted a lot more zip. Says he is original owner it has been well maintained. Impellers every couple a years, thermostats 2 years ago, only major work done is he had the tnt rebuilt a few years ago. Said he had them do a compression test on it 1,3,5 had 105, 2,4,6 had 100. said there should be no issues hasn't been sitting long. He was breaking in his new motor when I called.
Other motors ive called about are real iffy all of them "need the carbs cleaned".
What do you guys think???
And yes its a 1000.00 he said his mechanic said he would never get 2000.00 for it.
