Hello,
I'm pretty new to boating, I just bought a 92 skeeter with a 60hp Johnson (VRO) and I have heard many people tell me to disconnect it. I took it to a local boat shop to have the water pump changed (never been done) and asked about the VRO pump. The owner said "that will eventually leave you sitting on the water with a blown motor". He also said he could not disconnect it because it was computer controlled. I called a big Johnson dealer and asked them and they said they could do it no problem but it would take them 4 months because they were backed up. My question is, can I take this off my self or should this be best left to a dealer? The motor has been running fine since 92 with no problems and I don't want to fix what is not broken. Also if I leave it on will I have any warning before the motor blows? Thanks!
