Or maybe point us newbies in the right direction. Maybe a recommended site? Or a detailed how-to on fishing in saltwater? South Florida fishing preferred...:D

find your region and click.....lots of good information from normal posters..you can even coax setups from some posters from time to time.

get yourself a decent rod/reel set-up depending on the type of fishing you want to do....some basic tackle (circle hooks, jigs, gotcha plugs, etc.) and a good knot tying reference book then fish fish fish. The more you fish the more you will learn the what, whens, and wheres. i like to use a decent ugly stick from wal-mart (love the inter-coastals...black blanks with blue trim) and a shimano or abu reel from there...usually under 80 bucks for the set up, and i spool it with powerpro red or green (dia. depending on the size of fish you are targeting plus the size your rod and reel can handle. 15-30lb line you should never lose a fish unless you go off shore) with flourocarbon leader. i have some expensive setups as well but this is some pretty good starter gear. if you want something a little more expensive, i have some carrot sticks that i absolutely love. i have one spinner and one traditional with a shimano cardiff 300 round baitcaster and a saros 3000f spinning reel. i learn something everytime i go it seems.

hi there you are very close to a nice spot where I always go fishing is biscayne bay is a ramp on black point or another in a park that I dont remember the name is next to turkey point by homestead speedway, depend of what type of boat you have you can stay inside the bay or you can go out to the ocean thru ceasar creek very smooth, nothing like some ocean outlets, water inside the bay is very clear and clean and Really you know what i love going to biscayne bay NOT JET SKY AND NOT JET BOATS, if you go out to the ocean just north of ceasar creek you will see a tower is around 50-90 feet good for bottom fishing if you keep going north around 600-800 feet good for tuna and mahi mahi,I always use the tower as reference to go out and come back. look on googlemaps and type elliot key, and ceaser creek, good luck and happy fshing!!!

Good post from betayv. You might also want to check out Capt. Mels site. You will want to use and follow the tide charts that are posted. Click on at the top where tides/weather is headlined. These things are important and will affect how the fish are biting. They give a two day and a months worth of charts. Also follow the index on the left hand side and check out some of the links. Tons of good info.....good luck!! :)

This is only for South Fl...Go at night to backwater canals and find snook lights shining down on the water(usually behind condos).. cast a yozuri crystal minnow/spec rig and enjoy.... you will catch something maybe a ladyfish, bluefish, small tarpon, snook, trout, amberjack those are the usual suspects.. I like doing this especially with someone who isnt into fishing that much because you can see the fish that you are trying to catch in the light(got my girlfreind into fishing)

make buddies with some one local that fishes, it's just a time/experience thing. Get a decent rod/reel setup for inshore fishing and some tackle, don't go crazy because you'll find quickly that you don't need a ton of stuff, you're lucky you're in a great area for fishing.
