i can pick this engine up for 375. it has low compression in one cyld. I was just going to buy for the lower unit.

i have a 200 johnson with a 20 inch shaft.
Is this one a 25 inch? just curious if it would pop right in or if i would need to pull my shaft and swap with this one.

and does anyone have a tip on pulling the shafts out without the oem tool?

It looks to be long shaft. You might measure it to be sure.

The model number should also tell you. For example a J175EX is extra long. J175EL is longshaft. Swapping the driveshaft is a difficult change. Are you sure the lower will bolt up?

The unit will bolt right up as long as your 200 is 79 or newer. The driveshaft is a tad less than a 1/4" shorter but will work as is. If you do decide to change the upper shaft, it's a snap. Literally. Once the pump is off the shaft pops out and the other one pops in. There is a special tool but a dealer can swap them (once the pump is out of the way) in about 2 minutes. No big deal.

You'll have to use the shift shaft from your 200.

i was trying to avoid the dealer..
What i was thinking was putting the lower unit in a vise and using some vice grips mid shaft and taking a big hammer to the vice grip hitting upwards. Figured it may pop out.
what do you think?
