can,t lock 1977 evinrude

HI there just got this engine with a boat and on the port side of engine theres a lever to lock engine up or down mine does,t work am I missing something or not doing something right..1977 70 hp evinrude out board

There should be a rod going thru one of the holes in the lower portion of the transom brackets. (Reverse Lock Rod)

When you place that lever in the lock position, a spring loaded hook type lever of sorts should lower and grab onto that rod.

Oka JOE will take another look tomorrow to dark now and cold up here in T Toronto- Canada no snow yet thanks to old man winter ...

That is exactly the same problem I am having on my motor.(1977 70 HP Johnson) Is there any pics or a schematic to show how it is suppose to lock?

i too have this issue any expolded view of what im missing

sorry i can lock my motor with my trim pin i can not lock it in the trailer position

This is a two year old thread resurrected from the archives by a newbie. If anyone has a similar problem I suggest starting a new thread instead of shirt-tailing or hijacking someone's thread. This one is closed.
