Re: Can the hp be increased??

One of the most asked questions asked here at iboats.

The answer might be yes, or it might be no. I don't know your particular engine. What I do know, is that even when hp can be increased, short of the major tweaking done by race shops (which aren't going to be involved in a motor as small as yours), the results may be expected to be marginal. The cost of the conversion may also be expected to be great.

So, the short answer that sounds sort of "flip," which I don't mean to be, is ... "yes, get a bigger outboard." Doing so will be less expensive, eaier and will yiled better result.

PS: Are you in Rhode Island?

The answer is no. Your 8hp is based on the same block as the 6hp and 7.5hp of the 1980s. At 8hp it is just about maxed out. Hate to say it, but if you need more power, get a bigger motor.

mini nitrous set up would fit the bill!!!!

I have always wondered......two, 8 hp motors....one with 115 psi per cylinder, the other 95 psi per cylinder...everyone would say as long at they are within 10 % you are good to go...

but the higher compression motor has to be putting out more hp than the lower compression motor as long as the fuel delivery and timing are the same
