Can the newer hex headed drain plugs be used for the vent plugs?

I'd like to avoid using the standard slotted screwdriver plugs if possible and wanted to ask to make 100% sure there was no interference issues with using the hex headed drain plugs with magnet at the vent screw hole for your typical 1978 year and above V4 crossflow lower units? Mine is 1990 but asking for a wide range in case of future decisions.

I checked carefully visually and the depth of the hole area with an allen wrench and could not see any possible interference items nearby.

HEX head drain plugs a real PITA when they are stripped.... it happens !

you then have to grind slot to take them out or bash the edges counterclockwise...

lots of fun .

after you do one you never install another one. jmho

Interference regarding the magnet was the biggest concern for my asking. I knew the main body of it would fit in the hole correctly, just wanted to make sure there was no critical moving parts extremely close to to the vent plug hole that would make using one with the magnet on it a big no-no.

I personally do not mind the hex headed ones for my own outboards but I can understand why service facilities may not. I put mine on well snug but not the stupid level that service shops deal with or the added bonus of being a salt water outboard.

The hex head ones look nice.----But not as durable as the slotted ones in my opinion.-----They need to be tightened correctly to last for years and years !
