Can the prop shafts on a Bravo 3 be inspected without full disassembly ?

I have a Bravo 3 drive that has just now started leaking at the prop area. I only had to add lube to the reservoir once this season.

I will soon drain the lube to check for water intrusion.

A shop has quoted me $400 for just the seals, but also mentioned it was very likely the prop shafts are scored and will require replacement parts or a new lower unit, both being expensive options.

Is there a way to check for shaft scoring before I take it in without the need for specialized tools ? I can get the two props off.

The is a freshwater boat with 600 hours.

I would suggest go find another shop.

While it is possible the shaft may be an issue, I don't think its very likely. If the drive was filled new at the beginning of the season, it would be normal to have to add some in the first 10 hours or so. The B3 inner seal is notorious for leaking, my brand new drive from the factory started to leak.

I would suggest pulling the drain plug and let some come out, if there is no milk or water, it would be doubtful the drive has a problem

You cannot inspect the inner works of the bearings and shaft without pulling the carrier bearing on the shaft.

It is definitely leaking. The leak is from the seal on the bearing carrier. I do not know what the shaft looks like as I cannot remove the bearing carrier. The bearing carrier must be replaced. It has extreme corrosion and is missing quite a few pieces around the seal, exposing it. The seal on the inner shaft is not leaking, but the white lip has a few cracks in it.

I am hoping a new bearing carrier and shaft seals are the only things it needs.

If you have that much corrosion you won't like out come no matter who services it!
