Don't know for sure, Rez, but I do think the legs can be swapped. I am curious about which power head you want to use, because the electric starting system can also probably be swapped onto the rope start powerhead.
the only differences are the lengths of the drive shaft and the water tube and the 5 inch extension piece. if you want to keep it a short shaft use the shorter shaft and water tube and leave out the extension. i have a 76 evinrude 40hp and a 74 johnson and one is short and the other long and i have used both on the evinrude.
