can I replace my lower alpha 1 unit with a MR lower unit I need to know thanks

Ayuh,.... It's pretty much a direct Swap,.... Plug & Play....

thats what i thought as well but not a chance in hell 1st of all the back of my alpha is square and the piece of crap lower comes to a point drive shaft has a point on the top mine doesnt and my prop wont go onto the drive shaft properly rubs and shaft isnt tapered

My understanding is that gen 1 alpha drives can be swapped with MC-1 drives, but Gen 2 drives cannot. If the lower has the pin in the top of the shaft, it won't fit on the newer upper though.

thats what i have heard but i believe
that this drive was pre 1974 and its a diffrent animal

I don't profess to be an expert. I was just repeating what I've seen on these forums.

Hell, I put my lower unit back on the upper with the shift shaft facing the wrong way... ;)

Your original question was "can I replace my lower alpha 1 unit with a MR lower unit" now you say Pre 74, that is not an MR or an Alpha, it's an older 1 drive, and no you can't swap the lower units. You can swap the complete drive on the transom shield, but can't change just lower units.
