Ref a previous posting I have located my problem, but did not find what I expected to find.

1977 Mercruiser 165. We had a problem with the boat lurching and stalling. We opened the Pickup line and there was a screen that was clogged. HOWEVER no pickup tube...can this be right?? The tank is a 1977 AFP (Aluminum Fabricated Products) tank. I am not familiar with this tank type, just wondering if this is correct??

thanks

Where is the 'pick up line' located?

Working backwards from the fuel pump, there is a line that goes to a fitting on the top of the fuel tank. There is an anti-siphon valve on the end of the fitting. Again the fitting sits on top of the tank. When you unscrew the fitting from the tank there is a screen that sits underneath. that screen was clogged. When we unscrewed the fitting we expected to see a pickup tube, but just the screen was there...

Sounds like the tube fell off. You need a new pick-up tube. It was probably aluminum and corroded off at the fitting.
