364V Ranger 175 Johnson, When I push throttle handle it travels about 1/2 way down before the engine rpms rise and I hear the engine increasing. Is there an adjustment and does it require a boat mechanic to adjust??

Yes it can be adjusted, but first check whether the carburator throttle plates fully open when the handle is pushed all the way forward. If so, and no problems with throttle returning to idle stop then no adjustment is necessary. If throttle cable is adjusted overly tight then additional handle travel would be required before throttle plates begin to move. Has there been a change in its operation or has it always seemed like a problem?

No problem but just had boat for 3 months, it is a used rig. Guess need to remind myself if it ain't broke don't fix. Oh yeah and I realize it is a linkage not a leakage!!!! Just a little slow.

My Volvo I/O does the same thing and my Mercruiser before it did also. I think it's supposed to be that way.

Check and see if the whole cable is moving back and fourth at the control box. If it is you can open box and fix the cable housing so I doesn't move.
