can twin 150 mercs be ran off of 1 gas feed?

I just bought a boat that was converted to a bracket with twin 1995 150hp mercs carbbed. The boat was originally a single outboard boat. Whoever installed the motors ran a T above the gas primer ball and ran to each motor. I would think that 1 feed for 2 outboards will not be enogh fuel flow but I guess that is why I am here asking for any opinions or past experiences. I have yet to sea trial the boat(getting tow vehicle fixed) but the previous owner said he never had a problem. I am thinking of going to twin 225s which might be a problem if the 150s are not. Thanks for your input..

I assume you're talking about a standard 3/8 inch fuel feed. It is just enough for 1 V6 engine I would think you'd starve a dual setup.

Now, if it were pushed at about 2 lbs with a boost pump @35 gph or more, then it would work fine, but you wouldn't need the primer bulb.

If it's a big water application, I'd think you'd want separate (redundant) systems for each engine, just to get you home if something goes wrong.

I agree with John.... I run an electric pump with restrictor and gauge on all of my boats...tired of the problems with bulbs....Remember that you can't have more than 5-6 pounds pressure or you will blow the fuel past the needle and seat...just my 02.......

Your not gonna use that much more fuel.It should work.If your worried change to a bigger hose and fittings.
I have a pair of 85's and it's feeds off a 1/4in hose.Never had a problem.J

Hey Roger, That boat was designed for a single OB motor? The max HP of a single motor would have been 250HP or maybe 300HP, now you want to hang 450HP? I would think you will be exceeding the rating on the hull for weight and power. Do you really need that kind of power?

You probably should use a 1/2" or 9/16" fuel line if you plan to stick with a single one. The tank pickup needs to be that large as well.

Your set up really needs 2 seperate tank withdrawal fittings of a minimum 3/8. This type setup will insure no fuel delivery problems to engines. Also if by chance you hit a bad wave and the single tube snaps in tank your not dead in water. With 2 tubes you have at least the other tube to keep one engine going.

We're talking engines, not trolling motors.:D

I've seen a V6 burn down because the fuel bayonet was replaced with a plastic (Atwood) part that wouldn't flow enough fuel.

2 x 150 = 450.

He said he was thinking of changing to twin 225HP motors. I can add!
