Hi, I'm a newbie to this web site. I have some boating experience (inboard/outboard ski boats) but no experience with anything like this. I posted this over in the backyard/boat builder forum, but was hoping I could get some opinions here too.

I encountered a boat being sold on consignment. It is a definitely, positively, a fixer upper. It's a large boat, with a cabin, bathroom, etc. Inboard engine with a shot transmission. (and by the looks of it the engine isn't too hot either). The guy has a outboard motor mounted on the jet of the stock engine, so he could still drive the boat around.

Below I'll post a URL of a small website I made that has the pictures, and comments. I would love to get any opinions that anyone can offer, regarding whether this would be worth one's time, and possibly if so, at what price would one pay for this, knowing the laundry list of things that need attention/repair.

Feel free to e-mail comments, or post here in the forum.

The URL is:

http://users2.ev1.net/~jw15851/boat/boat.html

Thanks for any assistance that you can provide!

-Jason W

Wow, that guy was DESPERATE to be on the water. I can't say as that I've ever laid eyes on a get up like that.

As long as the floor is solid in this boat, it's probably OK. You'll be best off to to fix that hole in the transom and repower with a new engine/drive *** 'y. Those can be had had for far less than a new outboard with enough hp to push that boat.

You can land a good V-8 powerplant and drive assembly (Alpha 1) for less than $10K.

If you are doing this for a financial profit, forgetaboutit. This is probably not a jet boat but an IO that got chopped. The engine seems a little small to handle a berkeley or american turbine or a jaccuzzi drive. I am not positive but I am no sure mercury ever made a jet drive.

This thing gets a 10 for innovation and a 0 for style. If I were you, run don't walk away from this one. There are just too many sins to clean up. There are always other boats.

As for a dollar value, how's the outboard run? Thats about all the value I see. Maybe 250 for the trailer, tough to tell condition.

It never was a "jet boat" it's an ex Mercruiser outdrive that has been trashed by some idiot.

Run away as fast as you can.
That hulk has NEGATIVE value.

As for the question "what enviroment is it best suited for" ....land fill comes to mind.

Pointer is right i believe, it looks like an old model one bell housing. If that's the case, you need to buy an outdrive(under 2k) to bolt to that housing and see about the motor(whether it's salvagable). You will need to get it to turn over, then check compression to determine whether your going to be able to use it or have to replace it. There is no transmission, no jet so that's all for the drive.
As for the wiring, it's a mess but not much cash to fix just time. The toilet hoses i believe are vent and pumpout, no tanks.
You don't mention a make or year for the boat. With those, you can go to www.nadaguides.com and get an idea of what a repaired boat would be worth. Then you can determine whether it's worth it.
As for price, i'd say under 3k not uncluding motor to get it floatable. Again, the motor is an issue. If it has compression, good. If it's bad but at least turns, it's may be rebuildable. If it doesn't turn at all, it's probably trashed.
Also, you can sell that outboard for a few bucks to help out.

Hi, Jason.

The best place for this post is in the Project Boats Forum, where you also have it.

Please use that one. Multiple posts are confusing.

Good luck. :)
