I am looking into purchasing a boat that is need of repair and i am not exactly what you would call an expert. I have never before owned or worked on a boat and need to know if I would be getting in over my head with this project. The boat I am interested in is in need of a new floor (right now it has no floor in it). The boat is a 1969, 16 foot Mercury cruiser. I would like to know where exactly I would start and what kind of money/time I am looking at. Any help, suggestions, thoughts, etc would be greatly appreciated.

If it's free and you want a long term project and have money to put into it, then get it. If they want more than $5.00 for it and you want to go boating in the next year or so, then pass it up.

If the floor is rotten, then so are the stringers and transom, plus you have no idea if it runs (they always say it ran well the last time they had it out). So you're looking at rebuilding everything, which will cost much more than buying a running boat you can test drive.

for example.....im rebuilding a 69 sea ray......floor stringers and transom......no motor....100 hrs and 2 grand....el cheepo.....500 minimum....

a motor will cost anywhere from 300 to 12 k.....

read mu hull ext in progress.....at the beginning i thought it would take me 3 days for the ext.....that was 7 months ago !!!!!!!
