volvo aq125A

every day on the lake my closed system overfill tank dumps a small quantity of antifreeze after running hard out of the tank.

we'll i NEVER have to refill the closed system!! so where is the fluid comeing from...are there a posibility for there to be leaks from the open system into the closed system?

or am i understanding the system incorrectly?

Where is the antifreeze being dumped? Onto the floor, into the bilge? If so, check your engine temperature, check to see if your closed system has the proper pressure cap on it, put on a coolant recoverery system.

ps you haven't said, however, what is happening to the level of antifreeze in the system. Heat exchangers can corrode internally, but it would be interesting what would happen with a pinhole leak. It seems that the coolant, under pressure, would just be blown out into the raw water, eventually just as a radiator would blow coolant out into atmosphere until there was insufficient antifreeze to cool the motor. In either case that would have nothing to do with AF being blown out the radiator cap and or overflow tube. (see previous post)

thanks for you help.

you right i didn't mention the level, but i did mention that i NEVER have to fill the system. it stays right where it should be all the time! the fill tank on a Volvo is the expansion tank and it may just be the pressure cap, it seems rather loose, or easy to take off.

the antifreeze has a good green color and doesn't appear to be contiminated or "thining". so i may need to find a new cap and experiment...
