Can we use Nissan tach on Johnson 140

We are trying to rig my buddys boat with a 1989 140 Johnson and his dad has a almost new nissan tach,,can we use it on this motor.It has the setting on the back for 12 pole,,which I believe my 120 is. And if so,where would be the best place to pick up the feed for this and what color wires on the johnson. Also,this tach has a white,,green and yellow wire,,any idea which colors would coordinate to the johnson wires.

You can use the tach if it has a 6 setting.

The wiring for the tach is on the three wire half-circle shaped plug just below the key on the 1989 Johnson side control.

Don't hook anything to that plug unless you know for certain it is compatible. Check it with a J/E dealer if possible.

I just checked the tach and it has the 6 pole setting. Just not sure what color on tach would correlate to the gray on the omc plug.

Go to the Nissan Forum and ask which wire is the pulse wire. You might have to wait a while to get that here.

That [pulse] is the gray wire on the Johnson.
