Can you add an engine driven raw water pump?

....and if you do, it there any advantages/disadvantages to doing so?

For reference, I'm talking about a 92 5.7L 350 Mag.

You can do Anything you want,...

Just as long as you're willing the throw the appropriate amount of Money at it....

But,... I don't know Why you'd want too....

Merc recommends using an engine mounted pump in place of the outdrive pump when you have a FULL closed cooling system where the exhaust manifolds are cooled with the antifreeze side of the system.
The engine mounted pumps have more pressure and volume of output.
If you are raw water cooled, there are no advantages to having the pump engine mounted. Especially if you change your Alpha I Gen II impeller after 3 years or 300 hours as recommended.

Thanks guys for the replies. I was thinking the same thing, but getting different advice from someone who has an engine mounted pump. He would always point out the higher volume, to which I'd reply that I'm not running warm now, so I don't know why I would need more water.

As for the impeller, I replace it every year. You only need that thing to come apart once to learn that lesson!
