Can you ID this grease?

Hello,

While I was working on my outboard motor, I notice the previous owner had coated all bolts/nuts on the lower unit with this greenish grease. Whatever it is, it made the disassembling a 14 years old out drive a walk in the park. I sure like to re-apply the same grease when it's time to put every back together.

I took two pictures. One with flash, and one without.

Thanks

B

looks like old white lithium but i like to use nickel antiseize (dont use the copper stuff it helps corrosion especially in the salt )

It may be the Merc 101 which is a good grease, but a bit expensive.

Using the Johnson-Evinrude Triple Guard Grease works very well also. I've taken apart salt water motors that were serviced over 8 years previously and the Triple Guard was still on the threads, making it easy to dissassemble.

It almost looks like Thread dope for making up natural gas lines, but its probably is yellowed anti-seize.

Re: Can you ID this grease?

Thanks for all the reply.

I have checked all the possible suggestions here and I think Merc 101 may be the winner. At lease according to the MSDS, Merc 101 is only one that is white with hint of green. I'll go ahead and order a tube to see if it's a match.

Thanks !!

Merc Special 101 is yellow with some greenish tinge. It does look like the stuff in the picture. It is made to be used on the stainless steering rods on OBs and I/Os.

I like the nickel antiseize also, it doesnt come off in water, and lasts forever. I have used it on the prop shaft splines, and lug nut studs too. Always easy to remove down the road.
